Camp Jam People Profile: Orlando

In our continuing series about the people involved with Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp, we will now introduce the people at the Orlando rock music camp. Camp starts on July 23th so if you haven't already signed up, now would be the time.

Each camp location has its own Music Director(s), each of which are musicians in their own right and responsible for hiring staff members, monitoring camp classes and activities and placing campers into bands based on ability level and compatibility.

Camp Jam will also feature a series of Master Classes, sessions with a legendary rocker in which they share their stories, talk about the role music has played in their lives and best of all jam with the campers.

So, on with the introductions: Orlando.

Music Director:

Michael Worley is a professional, full time entertainer with 20 years experience, performing for Walt Disney World, Royal Caribbean, 'Jelly Rolls' Dueling Pianos, ‘Clutch’ Rock & Roll Show Band, and The Pink Flamingos to name a few.

Master Class Schedule (when each legendary rocker will be at camp)

July 25 - PAT TRAVERS - Pat Travers of the Pat Travers band is considered a guitar hero by many, admired for his Hendrix-influenced style and excellent composing skills.  Most recently, Pat has toured with well known guitarists such as Jeff Watson of Night Ranger and Rick Derringer and Tim Keiffer of Cinderella.

August 1 - DEREK ST. HOLMES - Best known for being Ted Nugent's vocalist and rhythm guitar player, St. Holmes is the voice behind hit songs like "Stranglehold," "Hey Baby," "Got To Live It Up" and "Death By Misadventure." Indeed, all of Nugent’s platinum albums feature Derek St. Holmes on vocals. He is also a founding member of Big People, which was comprised of former Cars bassist/vocalist Ben Orr, Liberty DeVitto, Pat Travers and Jeff Carlisi.

Camp Jam READY-SET-ROCK! Spring Tour coming to a town near you

Camp Jam is teaming up with our friends at NAMM to present The Camp Jam Ready-Set-ROCK! Tour, a fun, interactive music experience for young rock musicians (ages 17 and under) that will be held this March and April in ALL Camp Jam cities.

This free clinic, concert and jam event will be the best way to get Ready to Rock this Summer at Camp Jam and Camp Jam Kidz. The tour will first kick off this March 2-4 in Houston and Dallas (exact locations, dates and times listed below).

CONCERT PERFORMANCE BY ROCK LEGENDS:
A special concert performance will be given by our Camp Jam celebrity rockers, providing young musicians an up- close experience with some of the music industry’s most accomplished rock musicians.

INTERACTIVE CLINIC w/ CAMP JAM PROS:
Hangout, jam and learn from some of the music industry’s top pros as well as meet the Camp Jam team in your city. Special music instruction will be provided during this unique, interactive clinic. A limited number of instruments will be provided.

ROCK SOLO CONTEST:
Any rockers, ages 7 to 17, are invited to play their best 30-second rock solo for a chance to win a $100 music store gift card. The contest is open to all guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboardists and vocalists. Instruments will be provided although guitarists and bass players can bring their own instrument if they like.

Camp Jam And Camp Jam Kidz Now Bringing Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camps to 14 Cities

We're thrilled to announce that Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp, for ages 11-17,  and  Camp Jam Kidz, for ages 7-10, will be coming to a total of 14 cities in 2007. Sessions are being offered for the first time in:

- Orange County (Irvine)

And we'll also once again be returning to the following cites:

- Cleveland
- Dallas
- Detroit
- Houston
- Orlando

It's time to get signed up for Camp Jam!

According to an article in the Washington post, it may already be too late to think about signing up for a summer camp in 2007. 

Really?

Come on... it's January!

However, it looks like January is still 4 months AFTER the sign-ups began for this summer's camps. The camps start taking registrations for the next year during the last day of camp when parents come to pick up their kids, and they seem to have marked success in doing so.

"You have some camps, some Jewish, some in the private sector, that frankly are filled on August 31 for the next summer," said Jerry Silverman, president of the Foundation for Jewish Camping.

In fact, January might even be cutting it closer than you would like. "By December, you might not be totally left out . . . but you might not get [what] you want," said Nancy Soschin, who runs the camp counseling service Summer Solutions.

The good news is that Camp Jam (ages 11-17) and Camp Jam KIDZ (ages 7-10) still have some spots open for our 14-city camp schedule this summer, but you'd better act soon.....they may not stay that way.
