New Release Tuesday: A Hipster Among Hip-Hop

Music often makes for odd bedfellows, like Jack White and Loretta Lynn or Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson (shudder), and it looks like release dates are no exception. Today, we find Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo and his solo effort in amongst some hip-hop giants.

Not sure what it is about Christmas that brings out the hip-hop albums, but there you have it.Maybe for next year they can arrange a Rivers Cuomo rap album....weeee.

Camp Jam Allstar Matt Ernst Featured in Auburn Newspaper

Camp Jam Allstars guitarist Matt Ernst (top center) was featured in an article in the Opelika-Auburn News about the new single "Money In a Card."

Apparently, he is getting some notoriety from the exposure at school and is occasionally being asked for his autograph. There's a quote from Matt about that in the article:

"It’s a great feeling to know that a song I’ve performed is on iTunes," said Ernst, who’s been playing guitar about four years. "It’s great to hear kids come up to me at school and say ‘Hey, that Money In a Card thing is really cool.’ "

The song is absolutely blowing up as more and more people here about it. We're not gonna pretend that it's gonna sell out on iTunes, mainly because that would be impossible to do with a digital track, but you should jump on the bandwagon now so that you can say that you heard it first. Just sayin'.

The Gibson Robot Guitar. No, it doesn't unfoldand help you save the world from the Decepticons, but it will help your frustration level when your guitar slowly goes out of tune while playing it. Why? Because the thing freakin' tunes itself.

We just recently learned that Camp Jam alum Chris Iorio (far left) has joined the band "Adelita's Way" and will be playing with them at the House of Blues in Las Vegas on December 4 where they will open for Hinder. New Release Tuesday: Saving The Day

There's actually quite a few recommendations that we can make for you today, even though the release of a new Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys album makes us cringe and feel like we're back in 1999. Avenged Sevenfold (known to the cool kids as A7X) and Saves The Day should make for good purchases, although probably very different so take a listen first before purchase. You can't go wrong with Duran Duran and then along with ex-Talking Head David Byrne are bringing back the 80's this week.

New Release Tuesday: They're Not Dolls, They're Action Figures

Well, once again there's not a whole lot coming out today that we could recommend to you. Start with the new Coheed and Cambria; this one we know is good because we already listened to it. From there, and because we still play with our GI Joe sets in secret, we may have a quick listen to Cobra Starship. If you like System of a Down, then check out Serj Tankian, he is the lead singer and this is his solo side project. And if you like, drug-addled musicians who date supermodels then check out the Pete Doherty-fronted Babyshambles, we're sure Kate Moss will be buying it. Camp Jam Instructor Wins MTVU Music Video Contest

You may remember that last week we asked you to vote for Camp Jam instructor Donovan's band The Winter Sounds in a contest on MTVU. Well, we just got this in from him:

New Release Tuesday: We Love Long Album Names

There are a couple of albums out today that could warrant a listen and possibly even a purchase. Maybe start with the new Thrice album because it has a long name, which we really enjoy, then pick up Jimmy Eat World and finish off with a little Nicole Scherzinger....wait, scratch that last one, that's not who we thought it was. In place of that and out of our aforementioned love for long album names, we may give Soulsavers a listen, but we're not keen on the actual band name.
