Camp Jam Denver Featured in Rocky Mountain News

Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp was featured in the Rocky Mountain News in Denver yesterday and the article is now up online, so head over and give it a read. Our favorite part of the article is the following:

Taylor Fitzke Googled for a camp and found Camp Jam. He learned some tricks to take back to his regular band, Manipulated Living. "I learned stuff that can contribute to my band when I get home - how to give the audience a better show, how to sustain your guitar-playing."

We definitely like to see this kind of thing because the idea for camp is to get you guys comfortable playing iin a band and on stage and taking those lessons back to your own bands at home.

Camp Jam Taking a Break for Fourth of July

Ok, you guys have been rockin' out so hard that we needed a week off to recover. So, this week is a break so that we, and you, can enjoy the Fourth of July holiday. Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp resumes next week in Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, and Cleveland. St. Louis gets their first taste of camp next week. Then the next week camp starts in Orange County the week after that. I hope you guys are excited because we definitely are.

Just a reminder that if you live in Denver or LA and want to sign up for camp, you will want to go ahead and do that now. Denver starts on July 23 and Los Angeles in August. See below for all of the Camp Jam dates through the end of June, and the date of the Master Class with the rock legend who will be teaching.

Camp Jam People Profile: Denver

In our continuing series about the people involved with Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp, we will now introduce the people at the Denver rock music camp. Camp starts in Denver on July 23th so if you haven't already signed up, now would be the time.

Each camp location has its own Music Director(s), each of which are musicians in their own right and responsible for hiring staff members, monitoring camp classes and activities and placing campers into bands based on ability level and compatibility.

Camp Jam will also feature a series of Master Classes, sessions with a legendary rocker in which they share their stories, talk about the role music has played in their lives and best of all jam with the campers.

So, on with the introductions: Denver.

Music Director:

Rob Fulton is a professional music engineer who also orchestrates and composes music for several different projects. His credits include CBS Television and Eminem and D12. He also teaches guitar in the Denver area.

Master Class Schedule (when each legendary rocker will be at camp)

July 25 -JEFF CARLISI -  Jeff Carlisi is the original guitarist and songwriter for the classic rock band 38 Special, which boasted more than five platinum albums during the 1980s and is best known for songs such as “Caught Up In You”, “Back Where You Belong” and “Hold On Loosely.” Today, Carlisi is helping young aspiring musicians make their rock star dreams come true with Camp Jam, which he co-founded in 2004.
July 25  - DEREK ST. HOLMES - Best known for being Ted Nugent's vocalist and rhythm guitar player, St. Holmes is the voice behind hit songs like "Stranglehold," "Hey Baby," "Got To Live It Up" and "Death By Misadventure." Indeed, all of Nugent’s platinum albums feature Derek St. Holmes on vocals. He is also a founding member of Big People, which was comprised of former Cars bassist/vocalist Ben Orr, Liberty DeVitto, Pat Travers and Jeff Carlisi.
August 1 - LIBERTY DEVITTO - Known as the quintessential “songwriter’s drummer,” DeVitto was the drummer for Billy Joel for more than 30 years, supplying the rhythmic framework for Joel’s multi-platinum hit albums (150 million sold) and legendary live concerts. DeVitto has been a session drummer on numerous recordings and has played live with artists such as: Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Stevie Nicks, Chuck Berry and Elton John.

Denver has always been an important part of the American musical landscape because of its location in between the East and West coasts and a lot of bands plan a tour stop there because of this. With so many bands coming to town, Denver has had a strong music history that has been influenced by many different genres. Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp is coming to Denver for the first time this year and we can't wait to see what you guys have to offer. While Denver may not be as recognized for historical musical prominence like such cities as Los Angeles, Detroit, or New York City, it still manages to have a very active popular, jazz, and classical music scene, which has nurtured many artists and genres to regional, national, and even international attention including the biggest export so far, The Fray.

Going back to the early twentieth century, Denver has played an important part in the history of music, greatly because of its central location in the United States; between New York and Los Angeles. During the thirties jazz boom, such legendary vocalists as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and others resided.

Denver has made many important contributiosns to music, one of those coming with the fusion of local metal fans fusing together with the vibrant jazz/funk and indie communities.  The "jam band" style was formed in Denver during the late nineties and has much in common with the sixties-era psychedelic groups and fusion artists like Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix.  Jam bands were composed of a group "jamming" for extended periods; as to which many genres were attributed. Popular bands of this genre include Big Head Todd and the Monsters and The String Cheese Incident.

In addition to the jam bands, stoner metal exploded in late nineties Denver as a response and as a complement to the jam scene. Using similar methods and popularized in trendy underground LoDo pubs, stoner metal was what many local hard rockers referred to as "the real product" of their endeavors.

Recently has seen the rise of east and central Denver punk rock and math rock. With bands like Fear Before the March of Flames, Drop Dead, Gorgeous, Single File, The Photo Atlas (ed. note: listen to this band now), Planes Mistaken for Stars, In Case Your Curious and Vaux leading the pack, a local hardcore/math/punk boom has started and gained national popularity.

Camp Jam Ready. Set. ROCK! Tour in Denver, Philadelphia and Orange County This Weekend

The tour is coming to Philadelphia, Denver and Orange County this Saturday and Sunday, April 14 + 15, for exact times and locations click the banner below.

Camp Jam is teaming up with our friends at NAMM to present The Camp Jam Ready-Set-ROCK! Tour, a fun, interactive music experience for young rock musicians (ages 17 and under)

This free clinic, concert and jam event will be the best way to get Ready to Rock this Summer at Camp Jam and Camp Jam Kidz.

CONCERT PERFORMANCE BY ROCK LEGENDS:
A special concert performance will be given by our Camp Jam celebrity rockers, providing young musicians an up- close experience with some of the music industry’s most accomplished rock musicians.

INTERACTIVE CLINIC w/ CAMP JAM PROS:
Hangout, jam and learn from some of the music industry’s top pros as well as meet the Camp Jam team in your city. Special music instruction will be provided during this unique, interactive clinic. A limited number of instruments will be provided.

ROCK SOLO CONTEST:
Any rockers, ages 7 to 17, are invited to play their best 30-second rock solo for a chance to win a $100 music store gift card. The contest is open to all guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboardists and vocalists. Instruments will be provided although guitarists and bass players can bring their own instrument if they like.

New Camp Jam Locations in 2007, Including First Ever Camp in Birmingham

As you know already our rock and roll summer day camp programs Camp Jam and Camp Jam Kidz will both be offered for the first time ever in Los Angeles, Irvine, Calif., Denver and Phoenix. These are all great music cities and we can't wait to get plugged in this summer and meet all of our new Camp Jammers. The exact locations and session dates for these four new camps are now listed off the CampJam.com homepage.

NEW LOCATION ANNOUNCEMENT: We're also pleased to announce that Camp Jam will offer for the first time ever a one week session this summer in Birmingham, Alabama at Shades Valley High School. The dates for this session are June 25 - 29, 2007 and registration is now open.

Denver Camp Jam Location Announced

Both of our rock music summer day camp programs Camp Jam and Camp Jam Kidz (ages 7-10) will be offered for the first time ever in Denver this summer and we're pleased to announce that sessions will be held at the Denver Academy. Located at 4400 E. Iliff Ave, the Denver Academy will host our first session on July 23-27 and the second session on July 30- Aug 3.
