New Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp Map

Every year Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp draws rockers from all across the US and even overseas. Camp Jam Cleveland To Play Concerts at Local Music Venue

For the first time, one of the Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp cities will be playing their Friday concert at a music venue. The Boneyard in Cleveland, OH, has offered to host the concerts for all of the weeks of camp. They will be held for three Fridays in a row starting next Friday and are open to the public and free of charge. So, if you are in Cleveland and want to check out some kids rocking out a local music venue, then head over to The Boneyard and prepare to get blown away.

Camp Jam People Profile: Cleveland

Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp is heading to the home of rock 'n' roll, or at least the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Camp begins in  Cleveland on June 25, so let's take a look at who you will be responsible for your evolution from camper to rock star.

Each camp location has its own Music Director(s), each of which are musicians in their own right and responsible for hiring staff members, monitoring camp classes and activities and placing campers into bands based on ability level and compatibility.

Camp Jam will also feature a series of Master Classes, sessions with a legendary rocker in which they share their stories, talk about the role music has played in their lives and best of all jam with the campers.

June 20 - RICKY BYRD - Byrd is probably most known for the time he spent as a member in Joan Jett’s band the Blackhearts. He played lead guitar alongside Joan for 12 years and toured the world over throughout the 80’s. In the early 90’s he decided to make his break and pursue his dream of doing his own music but not before he served some time working with the likes of Roger Daltrey and Ian Hunter from Mott the Hoople. He began gigging around New York City doing solo acoustic shows accompanied by Simon Kirke on drums from Bad Company and Kasim Sultan on bass from Meatloaf and Todd Rundgren, he issued a live CD called Tough Room... This World in 1999.
July 11 - LIBERTY DEVITTO - Known as the quintessential “songwriter’s drummer,” DeVitto was the drummer for Billy Joel for more than 30 years, supplying the rhythmic framework for Joel’s multi-platinum hit albums (150 million sold) and legendary live concerts. DeVitto has been a session drummer on numerous recordings and has played live with artists such as: Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Stevie Nicks, Chuck Berry and Elton John.
July 19 -JEFF CARLISI -  Jeff Carlisi is the original guitarist and songwriter for the classic rock band 38 Special, which boasted more than five platinum albums during the 1980s and is best known for songs such as “Caught Up In You”, “Back Where You Belong” and “Hold On Loosely.” Today, Carlisi is helping young aspiring musicians make their rock star dreams come true with Camp Jam, which he co-founded in 2004.

Cleveland is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the home to some of the hardest rocking kids we've seen at camp. We are really looking forward to heading back to town to see what amazing talent you guys can produce this year. Cleveland is the home of rap groups Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Royal Camp. R&B singer Gerald Levert also was a lifelong resident of Cleveland, and it was the hometown of R&B groups the Dazz Band and The Rude Boys. Cleveland is also the birthplace of female singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman and home to protopunk bands Pere Ubu, Rocket From the Tombs, and Electric Eels.

Thanks to its industrial background and harsh winters, Cleveland also has a strong metal scene led by bands like Mushroomhead, Chimaira, Between Home and Serenity, VentanA, Cholera, UNVEIL NEVAEH, 216, Above This Fire, Bleeding a Memory, and In Winter.

Cleveland is also home to Alternative Press (AP) magazine which has been documenting independent music since it started as a photocopied zine in 1985.
