The Weekly Kidcore Find: ShiSho
Self-described as the "hardest working band in elementary school", ShiSho features two sisters, the little one, Midge, and the big one, Vivian, and their musical mentor, the mysterious Professor PeuShu. Their sound can be described as indie-pop with tinges of electronica (as seen in their song "Disco Brandston") with dual female vocals provided by the sisters.
The band started with a cover of the Dead Milkmen song "Punk Rock Girl" which they obviously updated and changed to "Punk Rawk Boy". The song landed them heavy rotation on the indie radio scene in Cleveland, Ohio and the distinction of being tagged with having created "one of the best new songs of 2004".
In 2005, the girls recorded a cover of the Sufjan Stevens song, "Get Behind Me Santa", which landed the band a deal with the British label 'Filthy Little Angels'. They will be releasing a full-length on this label in late 2007 and are working on material for that album as we speak.
ShiSho have been out and about recently playing live shows around the midwest at different festivals and have been well-received. They have a five-song demo CD and tracks available on the download album, Hark! The Filthy Angels Sing, released in December 2006 and available from the Filthy Little Angels website.
Give the girls a listen, download some tracks and keep your eyes out for their upcoming album. Next week we'll tell you what these little entrepreneurs are up to on the side.
Have a great weekend!
